Q.) What is in Tancy’s Tincture?
A.) Ingredients: Organic Nettle Leaf, Organic Peppermint Leaf, Organic Echinacea Root, Organic Echinacea Tops, Organic Elderberries, Organic Eleuthero Root & Organic Rose Hips. The herbs are extracted with non-gmo glycerin.
Q.) What is the tincture good for?
A.) Building up the immune system is one of the best defenses against any kind of sickness. This herbal combination is super concentrated and includes the whole Echinacea plant and Elderberry herb as well as other herbs that pack a mean punch against the bad bugs that try to creep into our bodies. They work together to help create an environment in your body where only health and vitality can thrive. It has proven to be a fast and effective way to provide the body with the defense it needs in times of repair. Research the herbs individually to understand more about how powerful they really are!
Q.) Why the tincture vs. the syrup?
A.) The tincture has a much longer shelf life. The doses are smaller and my kids liked it better. Elderberry syrup has to be refrigerated, the tincture can be kept on a cool, dark shelf or in the refrigerator, your choice. Elderberry syrup is powerful but this has the added benefit of the additional herbs. This just ended up being my preference and really didn’t take any more time to make than the syrup did. Cost is probably similar, depending on how much honey you put in the syrup.
Q.) Is this something I would take daily?
A.) Because of the Echinacea, the tincture is best taken when your immune system is compromised and not on a long-term basis.
Q.) How do I store the tincture?
A.) As is the case with most herbs, this mixture should be stored in a dark, dry, and cool place. Refrigeration is great, but certainly not necessary. Following these suggestions will delay the loss of its highly valued nutritional and medicinal properties.
Q.) Why Glycerin and what is it?
A.) Glycerin is a trihydroxy sugar alcohol found in the natural fats of vegetables and animals. Physically, it’s a clear, transparent liquid with a high viscosity and a sweet taste. Glycerin tinctures (or glycerites) are much more palatable especially for little ones, and that is why I use glycerin vs alcohol. The shelf life is long since they keep for up to one year or so if stored in a cool, dark place.
Q.) How many dosages are in one bottle?
A.) The dosages will vary depending on the age of the child, and I can’t take any responsibility for recommendations. Personally, I give my littles about 2 droppers(the droppers only fill about ⅓ full) several times a day if they are sick. If we’ve been exposed and I’m trying to prevent I give that much morning and evening. A bigger kid and adult, I give about ½ tsp., which would probably be about 5 droppers per dose. I don’t give it on the daily unless I know they have been exposed. But at the first sign of a sniffle, I definitely start dosing
There are roughly 50 droppers of tincture in each bottle.
